At the International Short film Festival in Leuven, director Anke Blondé won the price for best Flemish short film with “Dura Lex” produced by Menuet. Grid is proud to have been part of the team by doing the online, color grading and graphics. Cobra.be brings some fragments and an interview.Congratulations to Anke and her team!

Grid goes Brussels

As much as we love Ghent, we really enjoy Brussels as well. And we’ve always enjoyed what they now call “customer intimacy”. What’s more, deadlines and budgets keep getting tighter.

Sooooo. It is time for us to get closer. And time to open a Brussels office to be able to serve you even better.

As of Monday 28/11, Greet Van Thillo (production manager) and Enzo Piccinato (VFX artist), both former key people at Condor, will start Grid Brussels and keep it up and running.

In our offices in front of Midi Station (Paul-Henri Spaaklaan 7, Sint-Gillis) you can now get VFX, compositing, motion graphics, colour grading, offline and online.

For the moment, we are busy preparing the start-up. But if you want to contact Greet and or Enzo for inquiries or congratulations, you can mail them on greet [at] grid-vfx [dot] com and enzo [at] grid-vfx [dot] com.

Moderator Jan Verheyen let our guests share their views and experience on the subject with a lively interaction from the public as a result.
Before we knew it, 1 hour had passed and half an hour for questions was short. But luckily, there was enough time left for further discussion and networking in the Bar Ingmar.

Debate “Local talent working locally” with Frederik Du Chau

How come the most promising moviemakers leave Flanders? Is it just a question of money and investors or are other factors at play? This is the core question to be answered during the debate about “Local talent working locally”.

Time: Friday October 14 at 9.15 am.

The debate will look at the experience of FREDERIK DU CHAU. In 1990 he moved to the US to work as a scriptwriter and director. He is known to the general public mostly as the director of “Racing Stripes”, the kids comedy about a zebra that thinks he is a racehorse.

Moderator Jan Verheyen will let the guests share their views and experience on the subject:
• Frederik Du Chau, a talent far from home.
• Wouter Bongaerts, an enthusiastic young director of animation and winner of the VAF Wildcard for animation.
• Jan Vermoesen, managing director of Mediarte, the social fund for the audiovisual sector.
• Dirk Lambrecht, teacher in Digital Arts & Entertainment (Howest)
• Wim Robberechts, manager of Wim Robberechts & Co and chairman of the VOTF.

CCB award for Schweppes perfect serve videos

Last Friday, the yearly advertising awards found place to celebrate creativity in the Belgian advertising industry. Together with the agency Emakina and producer/director Andreas Hasle, Grid was awarded in the category craft (AV branding) for the Schweppes perfect serve videos. Congratulations to everybody involved!

Overview
This is a varied role to support the daily activities of a busy V FX team. As a Render Data Manager you work with the team overseeing activity on the render farm, assisting artists with render issues and controlling the priority of work on the farm.

Key Accountabilities- Render queue management- Quality control of images, error checking and troubleshooting a wide variety of technical problems.
- Communication with producer, technical director & other team members
- Creating and distributing daily render reports
- Scripting tools to automate common tasks and improve workflow.

Profile
- An interest in developing skills and progress within a visual effects company
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to learn quickly
- Good communication and team working skills.
- Ability to use initiative and prioritize workloads
- Problem solving & proactive attitude
- Any knowledge of lightwave and fusion is an advantage but not essential.

Grid and Bigos! become Grid Film

The execution of more complex productions for visual effect projects requires the right approach to production – an important element in guaranteeing an excellent final result for our clients. Noordzee Texas

After the novel “Nooit gaat dit over” (by André Solie), Bavo Defurme directed the movie “Noordzee Texas” produced by Indeed Films (Yves Verbraeken).

Plankton invasion

In coproduction with TeamTO, Vivi Film and Canal+, Grid is very busy finishing the 39 episodes of this TV series created by Joeri Christiaen, a former animator at Grid. Airing date is planned for the last trimester of 2011.1 episode is ready so far, only 38 left !

PLANKTON INVASION is the first animated series that deals with the serious subject of climate change, through a comedy angle. Have a look at the site for more info and the trailer.

For its innovative, non-moralistic and fresh approach on the subject of climate imbalance, the series has received the ‘United Nations Decade for Education for Sustainable Development’ label from UNESCO. Furthermore, PLANKTON INVASION adheres to the guidelines of ECOPROD, a partnership approach whose objective is to make audiovisual and film production more environmentally responsible.
